What is Watch Together by Facebook Messenger?
Watch Together is a new addition to the impressive feature list of Facebook. It is free and will be releasing this week for both Android and iOS users. It allows up to 8 users to watch videos together. Users are super excited about this new experience. Since COVID-19 practically confined the people within their homes, companies have been trying hard to connect people virtually.
Facebook Representative states: “We created Watch Together to make spending quality time with friends and loved ones feel as close to an in-person experience as possible.”
Although the content that users can watch together is limited to what’s practically available on Facebook for now. However, the watch list is expanding, and that’s quite certain that it will include other content such as user-uploaded videos.
Nora Micheva, Product Manager of Facebook messenger, writes:
“And today, we’re announcing Watch Together so you can enjoy Facebook Watch videos with your friends and family and see their reactions in real time over Messenger video calls and Messenger Rooms.”
How does this new feature work?
It’s as simple as making a video call. All you have to do is to initiate a video call and swipe up. Now, from the menu, select the option “Watch Together.” Once you are done, you will have a library where you can choose the content or category such as TV & Movies, Watched, Uploaded, etc.
Moreover, you can create a Messenger Room, which allows you to add up 50 users. The messenger rooms have lesser restrictions, as they are considered more casual for a variety of users.

Watch Together is a way of luring more people towards Facebook and away from other competitive platforms. It will make users spend more time on it.
